Commonly, we just used command-line interface (cli) to do our jobs. But sometimes we need to access to the graphical desktop of the Linux OS. For example, you may want to visualize a materials structure in VMD or you may want to draw a 3D object in Blender and render a beautiful picture that you can use in your paper.
This page will guide you through the steps that will allow you to remotely access the graphical user interface in this workstation.
Download X2Go client (https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/download:start) and install it.
When you first open the X2Go client, a window will appear. If it doesn’t, click Session in the top-left menu and then select New session.
In the Session name field, enter something to help differentiate between servers. Using a session name is particularly useful if you plan on connecting to multiple machines.
Enter the server information as the following snapshot shows. Remember to change Login field to your own UBIT name. Click “OK”.
Then you will see the following. Adjust screen resolution as needed (e.g., 1920x1140 as in the snapshot below).
Click the session panel on the right and enter your UBIT password.
